Travel Insurance & Emergency Rescue

Why Travel Insurance is Essential

Nepal’s trekking routes traverse remote, high-altitude terrain where access to roads and medical facilities is severely limited. In emergency situations—such as acute mountain sickness, serious injury, or medical emergencies—helicopter evacuation may be the only means of rescue.

Emergency helicopter rescue operations in Nepal typically cost between USD 4,200 and USD 10,000, depending on factors including location, altitude, weather conditions, and flight distance. These costs must often be paid upfront or guaranteed before evacuation can proceed.

We strongly require all trekkers to secure comprehensive travel insurance before departing for Nepal.

Recommended Insurance Coverage

Your travel insurance policy should provide adequate coverage for the following:

  • Emergency Medical Treatment & Hospitalization – Coverage for illness or injury during your trek
  • Emergency Helicopter Evacuation & Rescue – Essential for high-altitude emergencies (ensure coverage extends to your trek’s maximum altitude)
  • Trip Cancellation & Interruption – Protection against unforeseen circumstances that prevent or cut short your journey
  • Accidental Injury & Death – Financial protection for you and your family
  • Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Baggage – Coverage for personal belongings and trekking equipment
  • Personal Liability – Protection against third-party claims
  • Repatriation – Coverage for return to your home country in case of serious emergency

Important: Please verify that your policy explicitly covers trekking activities at the altitudes you plan to reach. Many standard policies exclude activities above 4,000–6,000 meters.
