Annapurna Region

The Tsum Valley Trek offers an extraordinary exploration of one of Nepal’s most pristine regions within the Manaslu Conservation Area. Situated between the Ganesh Himal and Sringi Himal ranges, this sacred valley presents trekkers with commanding views of prominent peaks, including Ganesh Himal at 7,422 meters. The 14-day expedition commences from Soti Khola and traverses diverse terrain, from lush rhododendron forests and agricultural terraces to isolated Tibetan settlements. As a restricted-access region, the valley provides a remarkably uncrowded trekking experience while offering significant opportunities to observe Buddhist cultural heritage and endemic Himalayan wildlife, including the elusive Himalayan blue sheep.
Known traditionally as the “Valley of Happiness,” Tsum Valley holds profound spiritual significance in the region. The trek features visits to prominent Buddhist monasteries, including Mu Gompa and Rachen Gompa, situated above 3,700 meters with expansive views extending into Tibet. Trekkers engage with the Tsumba people, descendants of Tibetan communities who maintain distinctive cultural practices and traditions. The route is classified as moderately challenging, appropriate for physically prepared adventurers, with accommodation provided in local teahouse lodges throughout the pristine mountain environment.
The trek includes passage over Ngula Dhojyang Pass at 4,093 meters, providing exceptional panoramic perspectives before descending through the dramatic glacial landscape surrounding Mu Gompa. The Tsum Valley Trek combines physical challenge, cultural immersion, and natural beauty, making it an excellent choice for experienced trekkers seeking less-traveled routes. Optimal trekking conditions occur during spring (March through May) and autumn (September through November). Special permits and an authorized guide are mandatory for this restricted area. This expedition offers a remarkable experience for those seeking meaningful engagement with Himalayan culture and landscapes.
