Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Annapurna Region

Overview

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek offers one of Nepal’s most rewarding mountain experiences without the challenge of extreme altitude. Starting from Nayapul near Pokhara, the trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, traditional Gurung villages, and vibrant terraced farmland. This accessible 4-5 day journey is ideal for first-time trekkers, culminating at Poon Hill (3,210m) where sunrise reveals a breathtaking panorama of Annapurna South, Machapuchare’s distinctive fishtail peak, and the massive Dhaulagiri massif.

Beyond the scenery, this trek immerses you in authentic Nepali mountain culture. You’ll stay in family-run teahouses, savor hearty dal bhat meals, and share stories with warm-hearted locals. The route takes you up Ulleri’s famous stone staircase to Ghorepani, rewards you with Poon Hill’s dawn spectacle, then descends through misty forests to Tadapani. Spring brings explosive rhododendron blooms painting the hillsides crimson and pink, while autumn delivers crystal-clear skies and perfect visibility. Permits are straightforward to arrange through local agencies or checkpoints.

Whether you’re testing your abilities before tackling longer Himalayan routes or simply seeking an unforgettable mountain adventure, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek delivers. Pack layers for unpredictable mountain weather, wear comfortable hiking boots for the stone steps and forest trails, and consider hiring a guide for cultural insights and navigation. This moderate trek builds confidence while creating lasting memories of mist-shrouded peaks, terraced valleys stretching toward snowy summits, and the quiet magic of the Annapurna foothills.
