The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and least visited routes, yet it offers a truly rewarding experience. Trekkers are treated to breathtaking views of the towering Dhaulagiri, Thorong Peak, Annapurna, and the winding Kali Gandaki River. Along the way, you might encounter semi-wild yaks and have the chance to explore quaint teahouses run by the region’s local Gurung, Chhetri, and Magar communities, enhancing the cultural experience.
Our trek begins with a crossing of the Kali Gandaki River, leading us deeper into the heart of the Dhaulagiri massif. The high point of the trek is the challenging yet exhilarating ascent over the French Pass (5,360m) and Dhampus Pass (5,182m), both of which offer unparalleled panoramic views of surrounding snow-capped peaks and glaciers. These remote passes require stamina and determination, but they reward trekkers with some of the best mountain vistas in Nepal, making every step worth the effort.
The trek concludes as we descend into the upper Kali Gandaki Valley, finally arriving at the picturesque town of Jomsom, nestled between towering peaks. Here, trekkers can take in the stunning mountain landscape and reflect on their journey. Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Relax and recover from your journey. Overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, embark on a guided city tour of Kathmandu's historical and spiritual landmarks, including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and Boudhanath Stupa. In the afternoon, we will conduct a pre-trip briefing, discussing the trek itinerary, team introductions, and necessary preparations. Overnight in Kathmandu.
We will either fly to Pokhara followed by a drive to Beni, or take a scenic 8-9 hour drive from Kathmandu to Beni via Pokhara. The drive offers spectacular views of the Trisuli and Marsyandi rivers, with glimpses of the Annapurna Himalayas along the way. Overnight at a tented camp in Beni.
The trek begins today as we follow the Kali Gandaki River towards Myagdi Khola. Crossing suspension bridges, we pass through the villages of Mangalghat, Singa, and Tatopani, before reaching Babichaur. Overnight camping in Babichaur.
We trek through terraced hills and pass through Shahashadhara village, Dudh Khola, and Ratorunga village, before arriving at Dharapani. As we ascend, views of the Dhaulagiri range begin to emerge. Overnight camp in Dharapani.
Today, we ascend steeply towards Muri, with stunning views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and surrounding peaks. The journey takes us through dense forests and small villages, offering a glimpse of rural life in the Himalayas. Overnight in Muri.
The trail begins with a gentle descent, followed by a steep ascent as we approach Boghara. We descend to Phedi, and after crossing a small ridge, we ascend again until we reach Boghara. Enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight in Boghara.
Today’s trail is challenging, and we may need to use ropes in certain sections. We cross through dense forests and pass small settlements like Jyardan before arriving at Dhoban. This section requires careful navigation over rocky terrain. Overnight camp in Dhoban.
Today, we head towards the Italian Base Camp, situated in front of the West Wall of Dhaulagiri. As we ascend rapidly, the mountains come into full view. The altitude gain is significant, so we make sure to stay hydrated and pace ourselves accordingly. Overnight camp at the Italian Base Camp.
Today is a rest and acclimatization day. It is important to allow the body to adjust to the higher altitude. We will engage in light activities like short hikes or exercises, ensuring that we are well-prepared for the upcoming challenges of the trek. Overnight at the Italian Base Camp.
After a challenging glacier crossing and navigating tricky spots with ropes, we ascend onto the main glacier. The surroundings are dramatic and awe-inspiring, providing breathtaking views despite the rough terrain. The glacier crossing requires caution and the use of ropes. Overnight at Glacier Camp.
Today we reach Dhaulagiri Base Camp, a major milestone on the trek. As we climb, we transition from rocky rubble to smooth ice. From here, we enjoy unparalleled views of Dhaulagiri I’s north face. Spending another day at high altitude, we allow our bodies to adjust further. Staying active by hiking around the area is recommended to aid in acclimatization. This day is crucial to ensure we are prepared for the challenging climbs ahead. Overnight at Dhaulagiri Base Camp.
Today is one of the most challenging segments of the trek, as we make our way to the French Col. This involves crossing the glacier above Base Camp and navigating steep moraine walls. Once over the pass, the terrain becomes gentler, but the altitude makes the climb demanding. Overnight at the French Col.
We continue our ascent from the French Col, arriving at Hidden Valley, where we take time to rest and acclimatize. The surrounding peaks offer dramatic views, making this an excellent spot for reflection and exploration. Overnight at Hidden Valley.
We cross the Dhampus Pass (5200m), and after traversing avalanche-prone slopes, we descend steeply towards Yak Kharka. This descent is demanding but brings us closer to the lower altitudes, where we will camp for the night. Overnight at Yak Kharka.
Today’s descent takes us through Marpha, a picturesque village where we can enjoy a refreshing drink before continuing towards Jomsom. The trek follows snowy paths and rocky terrain, leading us back to Jomsom, where we will prepare for the flight to Pokhara. Overnight at Jomsom.
In the morning, we board a scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, flying through the gorge between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. The 30-minute flight offers unforgettable views of the Himalayan peaks. Upon arrival in Pokhara, we will transfer to our hotel and spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful lakeside area and Fewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.
After breakfast, we take a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for last-minute shopping or relaxing before your departure.
