Overview

The Annapurna Panorama Trek is a renowned trekking route in Nepal, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences. Starting from the lakeside city of Pokhara, the trek passes through lush forests, charming villages, and tranquil countryside. A highlight is Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village where trekkers can immerse in local culture. With stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, the trek provides a rewarding adventure, ideal for beginners or those with limited time, offering both beauty and cultural insight.

The trek’s pinnacle is the climb to Poon Hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, as well as Manaslu and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain). Early morning hikes reward trekkers with an unforgettable sunrise illuminating snow-capped peaks. Tatopani’s natural hot springs offer a relaxing respite, while vibrant rhododendron forests in spring add color to the landscape. The trek also allows visits to Gurung villages, giving trekkers a glimpse into the traditions and lifestyles of this ethnic community, making it a culturally enriching experience.

Rated as moderate, the Annapurna Panorama Trek is accessible to trekkers of all levels, including families with children. With daily walks of 4-6 hours and a maximum altitude of 3,200 meters, the trek is manageable and minimizes the risk of altitude sickness. Comfortable tea house lodges provide meals and rest, while porters carry luggage. The route showcases spectacular scenery, from subtropical valleys to bird-filled forests, with the trek climaxing at Poon Hill, offering an unparalleled mountain panorama at sunrise.

 

Itinerary

After breakfast, fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Upon arrival, drive approximately 40 minutes to Phedi, the starting point of the trek. Begin a scenic ascent to Dhampus village, following trails through terraced farmland and small forests. The walk takes about 1½ to 2 hours and offers pleasant views of the surrounding landscape.

Start the trek after breakfast with a steady ascent of about two hours to Pothana, a small village surrounded by forest with excellent views of Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South. Continue along peaceful forest trails with gentle ascents and descents, passing small teahouses along the way. The trail leads to the beautiful village of Landruk, set among terraced fields.

The trail descends for about 40 minutes to the Modi River. After crossing the bridge, observe traditional beehives on the cliff faces. The route then ascends steadily to Ghandruk, the largest Gurung settlement in the region, offering impressive close-up views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchre. Time is available to explore the village and experience local culture.

Leaving Ghandruk, the trail climbs through dense rhododendron forests. After approximately three hours of forest walking, reach Bhaise Kharka, where a few teahouses are located. Continue ascending through forested paths to Tadapani, a small settlement surrounded by forest with excellent views of Machhapuchre and the Annapurna range.

After a short descent to a stream and a wooden bridge crossing, begin a steady three-hour climb to Deurali Ridge. Continue to Deurali Pass (3,160 m) before descending gradually to Ghorepani. This well-known mountain village offers panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri range and surrounding peaks.

Early in the morning, hike through rhododendron forest to reach Poon Hill, one of Nepal’s finest viewpoints, and enjoy a spectacular sunrise with panoramic Himalayan views. After returning to Ghorepani, begin a long downhill trek to Tatopani, passing traditional villages and scenic landscapes. Upon arrival, there is time to relax in the natural hot springs along the Kali Gandaki River.

Follow the trail along the Kali Gandaki River, passing through villages, farmland, and sections of road construction. After reaching Tipling, continue on an easy trail to Ghaleswor, a developing town with modern facilities. Time is available to visit the Ghaleswor Shiva Temple and explore the town and riverbank.

Drive from Ghaleswor to Pokhara via Beni, enjoying views of river valleys and rural countryside along the way. Upon arrival in Pokhara, the remainder of the day is free to explore the lakeside area or relax.

Drive back to Kathmandu, concluding the journey.
